Did You Know? The sunflower signifies faith, loyalty, and devotion. It makes the perfect gift for significant others, parents, or best friends.
Here are a few fun facts about this popular flower:
- Sunflowers don’t just favor the sun in appearance. they actually stretch towards and follow the sun as it travels across the sky. (the process is known as heliotropism)
- Sunflowers are one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, and they grow to great heights! On average, sunflowers grow 8-12 feet within six months; the world’s tallest sunflower was recorded in the Netherlands in 1986, coming in at a whopping 25 feet, 5.5 inches.
- Sunflowers are popular not only for beautiful floral arrangements but their oil is highly prized as well. Sunflower oil is rich in minerals like calcium and iron and contains vitamin A and Vitamin D. It is used as a food source, as well as to condition hair, soften leather, and treat wounds!

- The large, beautiful sunflower head is actually comprised of up more than 1,000 individual flowers joined at the base. The large, yellow petals which are found around the edge of the center are individual ray flowers, which do not develop into seeds. However, each individual sunflower can have up to 2,000 seeds in its center disc, Sunflower seeds are used to make oil, as well as to simply eat as snacks.
When it comes to floral arrangements, the sunflower is confident and dramatic enough to stand on its own – yet friendly enough to mix well with other florals such as roses, daisies, carnations, mums and more. Adding one or two sunflowers to any floral design is a sure way to add a striking focal point to the arrangement.
The sunflower is one of the most beloved flowers in America and is a popular choice when designing bouquets and arrangements. For birthdays, graduations, or perhaps “just because” – call Campbell’s Flowers and ask for the spectacular sunflower.
